The SAELA Annual international Education Law conference took place from 1-4 September 2019 in Port Elizabeth in South Africa. The conference theme was ‘The role of values and ethics in bringing about change in education’. The conference focused on the legal and ethical obligations and powers of school principals, teachers, social workers and the members of multi-disciplinary teams. Also the impact of over-crowded classes, uninvolved parents and poor management on ill-discipline was discussed. Implications for education law and policies were highlighted. Finally, the book ‘Restorative Discipline’ of Roelf and Mariëtte Reyneke was launched.
